Artist's Comments

I found an old art work of mine. I did this as a present for my grandfather. It is possibly my only Chinese ink art work that's survived the test of time (if you know about the kind of paper used for Chinese ink painting, they are rather fragile). I am not exactly sure what year I did that. I mean, it's written on it in Chinese year, but my knowledge about it is kinda, limited lol~ my guess it was done around 1992 or 1993, definitely before 1995 as that was the year I moved to New Zealand. So that makes the painting at least 10 years old. It's survived the infamous 921 earthquake in Taichung, my cousin's drink split, fell of the wall - broken frame, glass and slightly ripped.

Chinese painting ink (not sure if that's the right name for it) not sure what the kind paper is called in English, it's soft and thin

Edit: confirmed! The paper is called rice paper :)

Yet another edit: it's been confirmed that the year written in Chinese year (壬申年 ) is year 1992. It was the year of the, duh, you've guessed it, monkey lol

That's cool. I've been seeing a bit more Chinese and Japanese art lately in my world art history class. Very interesting pieces. It definitely has that same feel as the originals I've seen.

No idea. Most of the pics I've seen were done on silk, though I think rice paper is a type that was used some.
